One must see in Vatican City is the Sistine Chapel, a chapel that is inside of the Apostolic Palace and is the official residence of the Pope. The Chapel was restored in the late 1400s and since then it has serves as a place of both religious and functionary papal activity. In the early 1500s Michelangelo painted the chapels ceiling, which is one of the most artistic accomplishments of human civilization.

Directly in front of St Peter´s Basilica is a large plaza, St Peter´s Square. The square is made up from two different areas. One area is trapezoid shape, marked off by two straight closed arms and the other is surrounded by the two hemicycles of a four row colonnade. Linked to the square is the Royal Staircase which is linked to te Vatican Palaces.

The Vatican Gardens are private urban gardens and parks which cover over half of the country and is owned by the Pope. The gardens cover approximately 57 acres, and the highest point in the gardens is 60 meters above sea level. You will not be able to get into the gardens unless you are with a guided tour.


As the Vatican City is in Rome, the temperature is also the same.

The winters tend to be mild and rainy, especially between the months of September through to mid May.

The summers are generally hot and dry, which are between the months of May through to September.

Getting Around

Vatican City is the smallest country in the world, 1.05km long and 0.85km wide. As the country is so small there are no transportation systems.

Vatican City have a heliport and a short railway which are used for special occasions only. 

Vatican City can be crossed within 20 minutes, based on the average walk speed. 


If you need to visit a doctor while you are visiting the Vatican, you will need to travel back to Rome and use your travel insurance papers to be seen by a doctor.


The Vatican City has no official language of its own. 

The main official language would be Italian. Most of the people in the Vatican will speak English, French, German, Latin, Portuguese, Chinese and Arabic, as this is a major tourist destination.
